Born: December 27, 1571 Died: November 15, 1630(Kepler died in Regensburg, after an illness)
  • Kepler is remembered for discovering the three laws of planetary motion.
  • Kepler was one of the most important astronomers in astronomy,
Kepler and Brache
  • Kepler thought his cosmological theory as giving evidence for the Copernican theory.
  • Kepler was Tycho Brahe's assistant.
  • Kepler and Tycho did not believe in the same theories, Tycho believed in the Ptolemy theory and Kepler believed in the Copernicus theory.
  • Kepler made the best use of Tycho’s observations after Tycho died.

Childhood
  • Johannes Kepler was born December 27, 1571 in Weil der Stadt, Wurttemberg, Holy Roman Empire.
  • His father was a mercenary soldier and him mother was the daughter of a innkeeper.
  • Kepler was the first child.
  • His father left home when Kepler was five and is thought to have died in the war in the Netherlands
  • His early school years was in a local school, then went to enrol at the University of Tubingen

Kepler's first Cosmological Model(1596)
  • Kepler thought his cosmological theory as giving evidence for the Copernican theory.
  • Kepler was a religious man; all his writings contain many references to God.
  • Kepler came up with the first correct mathematical theory of the camera obscura (kind of like a projector)and the first correct explanation of the working of the human eyes.

Kepler's 3 Laws of Planetary Motion
  • Kepler’s first law was that each planet moves in an elliptical orbit, with the sun at one focus of the ellipse.
  • Kepler’s second law was that a line from the sun to each planet sweeps out equal areas in equal time.
  • Kepler’s third law is that the periods of the planets are proportional to the 3/2 powers of the major axis lengths of their orbits.
  • Kepler’s third law is the most remarkable law he made.As an Imperial Mathematician, Kepler’s main task was to write astronomical tables, based on Tycho’s observations.
